International Women’s Day

International women’s day means a lot to a lot of people. Most of the time I hardly think of myself as a particular gender, I am an infinite being living the human experience.

As I wrote the other day I want to encourage everyone to take OWNERSHIP of their creations. WOMEN in particular.

I am the daughter of a very strong woman, she has made her transition to the next part of life namely pure positive energy, however a lot of what she stood for lives on in me, and so I am now owning not only my creations I am also owning my power.

My mother was self employed, like me, she was a world renowned ceramic artist she has one piece of art displayed at the Met in NY, yet she would always be putting herself down in one way or an other. Growing up in that environment had an impact on me. Both a positive and a negative one, because for the longest time I wasn’t owning MY POWER the way she wasn’t OWNING HERS!

The positive impact though was that when I got the the Masters Degree while studying, in Denmark you do all law or all medicine or what ever you choose to study, I came across IP (Intellectual Property) and fell in LOVE. So much so that I spent the better part of 4 years working for the Artists Legal Aid in Copenhagen.

The interesting thing is my mother didn’t limit herself to clay, she worked with other materials as well. Fibre glass and even metal. She didn’t do the actual metal work, what she did do was to draw up the design of a tiny wood burner, her husband then got it made into a prototype and then when people wanted to buy it had it produced. Guess what, that tiny wood burner got distinguished by the foundation for art in Denmark!

I want to encourage anyone reading this article on my site to take ownership of them selves, their lives and their power. The sooner the better too, because who are you not to do so? Who are you to hide your light? You don’t, like me, know who is watching thinking: Oh, I wish I Was like that! We can do this. We have the innate power, it may be dormant - yet it’s still there longing to thrive and flourish.

One of my favourite books to read when I feel doubtful is Cecilia Ahern’s The time of my life. That always brings perspective and amusement to me.

Taylor Swift is really good at showing other women to take ownership of their power and creations. Take a look a her video »The man« can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqAJLh9wuZ0

Actually there are other female artists who are owning their creations. Look no further than Madonna or Dolly Parton.

Madonna has several Enterprises amongst others 4 fashion labels, a fitness centre,  a charity for children, not to mention a skin care line.  Some of these are co-owned enterprises.

Dolly Parton also has several enterprises such as Dollywood Company, which she co-owns that is the parent company that has several entities underneath it such as Dollywood theme park, a dinner theatre, Dolly Parton's Stampede, Dollywood splash country a waterpark, a resort & spa. She was co-owner of a film & tv production company and a charity as well to mention but a few of her ventures.

There are probably may more powerhouses out there that I haven’t mentioned. they are not forgotten, only I have to stop somewhere.

Thank you to my darling brother Simon for taking the time to dig out the picture of my mother and I at my graduation ceremony in 2012 from the faculty of Law.
