China and Intellectual Property
The other day I boldly stated that China is leaning to protect Intellectual Property. Today I have to realise that maybe not all of the Chinese car manufactures are on the same page as everyone else. Sadly.
Why am I writing this you might very well ask?
Well, I do so because there is a Chinese car manufacturer, ORA, that has revealed a »new« car that is in actual fact a carbon copy, more or less, of the classic Volkswagen Beetle! There is very little in this new car that wasn’t present in the 1938 car.
What is different though is that this new car has 4 doors rather than just 2. There are a few other features such as a huge navigation screen next to the steering wheel, that wasn’t in the original Beetle simply because back then that technology hadn’t been developed yet.
In a time when most other car manufacturers have stopped copying all the cool designs for cars it seems that ORA has particularly a hard time kicking that disgraceful habit.
I can only imagine that whomever owns the rights to the Volkswagen Beetle are not amused and probably will be taking action. I know I would, if I was the one who had created such a design icon of a car.
If you want to know what the car is, search for Punk Cat in an image search using either Ecosia, because they plant trees with the searches, or Google. Or you can tap this link:
An other reason for writing this today April 26th 2021 is that it is WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY!
